“Behind the Scenes” Refuge Tour

Join a refuge ranger for a behind the scenes tour of Parker River National Wildlife Refuge. Tour will be conducted via refuge van, with several brief “drive by” stops along the way. The tour will present an “up close and personal” look at the refuge through the multiple lenses of the cultural history of Plum Island and the Great Marsh, native wildlife and their habitats, and the role of refuge management in the
conservation of these precious natural resources. Participants will visit areas on the refuge otherwise closed to the public. This guided two hour program is most appropriate for adults. Binoculars and/or a camera are recommended but not required. Meet the ranger in the lobby of the refuge visitor center. Each session is limited to 10 participants. Advance registration is required for this program, as enrollment is limited to 10 people per tour. Be advised that individual tours may be subject to cancellation. Free Open House @ Metro Rock 3/31/12

Whether you’re a regular or you are visiting our facilities for the first time join us for our FREE open house! We’ve extended our hours for a fun night of festivities! Who can say no to free climbing and free pizza? We’ll be showcasing all of our most popular programs including: Summer Camps, Birthday Parties, Afterschool, etc.

Great Chefs Night set for March 16

The Anna Jaques Hospital Aid Association announces that plans for “A Grecian Night with Great Chefs” are well under way. The date is Friday, March 16. Presenting sponsors are the Institution for Savings and the Newburyport Five Cents Savings Bank.

Included in this 24th annual event are gourmet food tasting from 6 to 8 p.m. and live entertainment and dancing from 8 to 10 p.m. The culinary creations are courtesy of celebrated chefs from more than 20 Greater Newburyport restaurants and caterers. The Stimulantes, a high-energy, Newburyport-based band, will provide the music. Once again, The Governor’s Academy in Byfield is donating its facilities for the gala. Read More.

Eagle Festival swooping into Newburyport Saturday

After six years, the organizers of the Merrimack River Eagle Festival have created the perfect format for the outdoor program as thousands of spectators visit Newburyport for a chance to spot a bald eagle, whether it’s on a van, in foot, or even at City Hall.

Throughout the free festival — which is scheduled on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. — participants can enjoy a range of activities, all designed to help observe eagles in their natural habitat.

New Works Festival 2012 is winding down. Still time for you to enjoy.

Since 2002 The Firehouse Center for the Arts and the New Works Festival have fostered the development of New England writers, directors, and actors.

Providing insight on the play writing process from conception to presentation, this festival allows us to share with the community a rare and special look at the abundant talent that surrounds us.

Submitted plays are judged by an independent panel of theater professionals in blind readings.

The 2012 New Works Festival will be showcasing full-length plays as staged readings, and memorized ten-minute and one-act plays. Check the web site often for updates on calls-for-submissions, auditions, etc.
